Creator's Cafe 44. Ashley Quach - What Lights You Up

Happy Friday Reader,
What's lighting you up this holiday season? I'm delighted to welcome a new nephew, baby Levi, to my family. And I'll get to see friends and family in the next few weeks.
In this episode, my guest Ashley talks about how many ideas can be a good idea, but the ones with staying power are the ones that keep you excited and engaged for the long haul. It's the difference between doing something as a "should" out of duty (or even a short term fun idea that doesn't have staying power) versus something that you can reengage with over weeks and months. Ideally your experiences will give you energy as you pour energy into them.
Old traditions feeling a little sloggy? Maybe there's a way to adapt to make them more exciting. Not excited about your creative lineup? Daydream a little on what does sound good instead.
So both in your creative life and the ways that you choose to spend your holiday season, I wish you my mashup of the serenity prayer:
May I have the serenity to pass by the things that don't light me up, the courage to jump into the things that do light me up, and the wisdom to know the difference"

-with love and the zap of excitement, Jessica

Happy Friday Reader, What if something wonderful just came out of nowhere? Have you forgotten that is also an option? I am definitely guilty of the big swing. Many days I'm really deeply optimistic, audacious, and bold. But then I can also swing to the opposite, and get pretty down on myself about the state of things. When that happens I almost forget that crazy and wonderful things can happen out of the blue. Every once in a while, life drops a big opportunity in your life. And if you're...

Happy Friday Reader, Welcome to the fall and cooler weather. When the seasons change, I like to check in and see what I want to change in my life. Metaphorically, what leaves am I ready to drop? Which new experiences do I want to try? I hugely value the people in my life who make me feel energized to lean into new experiences. This week's guest, Gabrielle, not only helped me learn to be an excellent AD, but she mentors and encourages all those around her to try the new thing. She's great at...

Happy Friday Reader, Sometimes you're in the hard part. Right now, I'm watching a CrossFit competition where Kyle and other friends from our gym are competing in 6 really intense workouts over 3 days. They are doing great, and it's so inspiring and intense to see people push themselves to their limits. But as much as it inspiring to watch from the sideline, when you're in the thick of it, life can feel gnarly. People here have bust up their hands already and are choosing to carry on, patching...
